What the AI Companion can and cannot do

The AI Companion supports relationship learning and practice. Its value comes from explanations, phrasing help and next-step guidance—not from impersonating a professional or taking responsibility for a person’s safety.

Use the Companion for clarity, not a clinical verdict

What it can help with

A user can type a question, ask for simpler language, request an explanation of a supported lesson or tool, practise a respectful sentence or ask what to do next. Lesson and tool prompts provide bounded public context for the user to review before deliberately sending.

The Companion can remember a limited amount of recent context securely on the device so a later exchange can feel connected. It is designed around the Couples Quest journey rather than presented as an isolated general chatbot.

Make the presentation comfortable

Current settings provide male- and female-presenting Companion choices, and the selected appearance is retained for later interactions on the device. These visuals are illustrations, not real people or professional identities.

A presentation preference changes how the Companion feels to use; it does not create a different clinical role or guarantee a particular answer.

What it cannot do

AI Companion provides educational relationship support. It is not therapy and is not emergency or crisis care. It does not diagnose, provide medical or legal advice, contact emergency services or guarantee that a response is accurate or suitable for every situation.

It should not decide who is right, label a partner or replace qualified support.

Privacy and processing

Cloud-supported replies may process the question, bounded conversation context and relevant public lesson or tool context when the user sends it. Avoid entering private details that are not necessary for the question.

AI conversations are not automatically shared with a partner. A user may deliberately save related content to a private-by-default Diary or use an available sharing control, but linking accounts does not expose the conversation feed.

When to use another route

Do not rely on the Companion for active violence, coercive control, stalking, self-harm risk or immediate danger. Move to appropriate local emergency, specialist or professional support. A shared activity should never be used to pressure an unwilling or unsafe partner.

Try this

Ask one bounded question: “Explain this idea in simpler language,” “Help me phrase a respectful request,” or “What is one small next step I could consider?” Review the answer with your own judgement before acting.
